Middle Eastern raving
This month, Raving Reporter @ibro.kamel is taking us on a little tour of his favourite local Middle Eastern restaurants - @atesh_restaurant, @crystalrocks1 and @leboncafecroydon. 😀
Have you eaten at any of them?
Our Raving Reporters are local residents who are helping to change the narrative about Croydon by showing off what they love about the area.

Japanese surprise
Croydon is always surprising us 😮.
First of all with Metropolitan House (an office building just off the High Street that comes complete with Japanese garden).
Then - tucked away inside - we find out about @disauthority - a film production (and post-production) company that’s building a strong reputation within indie film and festival film circles.
Whilst central London might more typically come to mind when thinking of the film industry, DISAUTHORITY is slowly and steadily putting Croydon in the movie spotlight - proving that cutting-edge talent, innovation, and world-class storytelling can thrive beyond Soho. 👌
Founded by a team of experienced creatives and led by @marcushundsnes (CEO) and @mariashevtsova (Chief Creative Officer), DISAUTHORITY offers “a fresh, rebellious approach to filmmaking” spanning production, editing, color grading, VFX, and sound.
Originally founded in 2017, the company’s move to Croydon signals a bold new chapter for South London’s media scene.
As Marcus explained to us “By setting up here, we’re helping reposition Croydon as a serious player in the UK’s creative economy, opening doors for local talent, and contributing to a growing cultural movement in the area”.
He went on to say “Croydon is vibrant and diverse, and so inspiring for a studio like ours.” He also rated how the location ensures they are “well connected, but at the fraction of the cost a central London office would be”.
DISAUTHORITY has a range of projects in the pipeline including ‘Rokeby Venus’, an erotic drama short starring Amira Casar (Call Me By Your Name) and Pip Torrens (The Crown).

Gift from Uncle Nabz
#CroydonBoy, @manlikenabz, was a seasoned stand up comic (and the youngest Black comedian to perform at Hammersmith Apollo) before he rose to national fame through his 2020 appearance on @britaingottalentofficial (where he got the “Golden Buzzer” from @aleshaofficial).
Next Friday 20 June, he’s performing his new show, Urban Battuta, at @croydonfairfield and (having recently sent our Instagram a bit viral with a few “choice words” about West Croydon 😜) he’s given us a discount code to share with you all.
Use UNCLENABZ20 on check out to get 20% off your ticket (priced from £21).
What row you pick to sit on is up to you 😉
Let me lick it
What a great day for an ice cream.
And an even better day for @thescoopcompany_ 🍦
Having taken Warlingham by storm with its artisanal gelato and Instagrammable creations, the award winning (‘Parlour of the Year’ no less) dessert shop officially opened at @boxparkcroydon today.
It’s owned by Maria who has dedicated herself to mastering real, artisanal Italian gelato - training with gelato chefs whose expertise dates back to 1946 🤓.
@gelatobymaria is made fresh daily with only the finest, locally sourced ingredients.
To celebrate the opening - the first 50 customers on Tuesday and Wednesday will get a free candy floss cone - with a scoop of gelato. (Shop opens at 1pm).
Get yourself a scoop asap - it’s not going to lick itself 😜
