We’ve created this free weekly email to help keep you in the loop with Croydon news (as we know that pesky Instagram algorithm is hiding some of it from you!).
The content that got the most traction this past week included Anti-Networking at The Event Rooms, Studio Ninety-Eight, Oree Bubbles, Aera, Filtr, David Lean Cinema, Flashback DJs and Street Beats.
Keep scrolling for a recap…
And a reminder to all Paid Subscribers that it’s #SeeYouNextTuesday Club tonight. See you in Trickle from 6pm to 8pm.
Anti-Networking, Pro-Community
Thank you to the 30 brilliant local businesses and entrepreneurs who joined us for our first ever Anti-Networking event last night (wish we could tag you all!).
Launching something new is always nerve-wracking, but we couldn’t have been in better company surrounded by fellow locals who know what it takes to try new things and keep evolving. The energy in the room was something special. 👌
Set in the (perfectly air-conditioned!) @theeventrooms, guests were welcomed with drinks and nostalgic tracks courtesy of Ritesh from @flashbackdjs, before crafting their alter-ego name badges (#IYKYK 😜).
Then came a high-energy #SpeedNOTworking session. Led by the team from Studio Zao, it didn’t take long before the room was buzzing.
After a breather and a drink at the bar, we moved to the lounge for some real talk from local creative entrepreneur and founder of @the.south.wing, Laura. Despite her polished business presence running @thedetail.creativestudio, Laura got honest about the messier side of her journey - sharing wisdom and hard won truths that hit home for many.
Next up was more mingling - but this time with a scratch card incentive💰. Sadly, no big angel investment jackpots were won (!) but plenty of new connections sparked.
While some kept the chats going over drinks, others took the chance to get one-to-one advice from Studio Zao on reframing their individual business challenges.
Conversations carried on long after kick-out both outside the building and down the street in @thedogcroydon pub garden.
We’ve had some great feedback already and it sounds like people want more:
“I loved every minute! Met some incredibly talented entrepreneurs and got my much-needed dose of inspiration. My kind of crowd.” Irena
“A great night meeting some really interesting people.” Felicity
“Loved connecting with other local business owners.” Heather
Thanks again to everyone who came along. You made it what it was.

Matcha-making
Matcha made in heaven?! 🍵
This month, Raving Reporter @mae.the._mua, was keen to rave about 3 of her favourite local spots for an Iced Matcha.
Have you tasted the pours served up at @oreebubbles @aeracoffeehouse or @filtr_coffee ?
Our Raving Reporters are local residents who are helping to change the narrative about Croydon by showing off what they love about the area.

Stars of the screen
Huge congrats to @davidleancinema on being recognised by @timeoutlondon as one of the city’s best cinemas - putting Croydon on the map for all the right reasons 👌
Sound advice from Street Beats
#CroydonBoy (and our anti-networking DJ!) Ritesh has been running @flashbackdjs for over 20 years.
What started out as a way to gather together his music loving friends has developed over the years and now, alongside fellow DJ, @flashbackrav, the pair bring nostalgic club classics (from RnB and garage to jungle and DnB) to venues across London.
Ritesh also runs #StreetBeats to help pass on industry knowledge and experience to Croydon’s younger generation.
Organised in partnership with his wife Hina (co-owner of @theeventrooms) these regular events bring together experienced DJs and music professionals alongside those who are just starting out.
As well as providing a place for early stage DJs, MCs and singers to perform in public, #StreetBeats events also ensure opportunities for new talent to speak with those in the know and gain valuable advice and insights.
You never know who might make an appearance at #StreetBeats - last month it was Bas from the legendary duo that is @pete_and_bas !
Keen to learn more or get involved ? Head to the @theeventrooms next Thursday 26 June. It’s free entry and no tickets required 👌
