Croydon Unlocked show takes a peek into the off-limits
Welcome back to Londonist: Croydon Edit. Piloted by Londonist editor and Croydonian Will Noble, it's about all things in the borough of Croydon. In this edition, which is exclusively for paid subscribers, I speak to photographer Rachel Adams about her new exhibition, Croydon Unlocked, which goes on show at Croydon Clocktower this weekend.
Open House take place across London from 14-22 September, bringing the chance to peek behind the curtain at some of Croydon’s normally off-limits buildings.
This weekend also marks the launch of a free exhibition at Croydon Clocktower—Croydon Unlocked—which has a similar ‘access-all-areas’ theme. Photographer Rachel Adams celebrates the multifaceted architecture and heritage of Croydon in this series of pictures by allowing us a glimpse, not just into the buildings, but at their custodians: the key holders, caretakers, cleaners and concierges.
“These,” explains the introduction to the exhibition, “are people who see these places as we never do: silent and empty after the day has passed, or as they prepare it for the next.”
